Why EOS Solar Water Heaters?

EOS Solar water heaters are carefully selected to ensure compatibility with both treated city council water supply as well as borehole supply.

EOS products are manufactured at a certified facility which ensures the highest quality standards, which EOS technical team is continually verifying and improving. Our factory and products are certified according to ISO9001, ISO14001, CCC certificate, CE, solar key mark EN12975, solar key mark EN12976, and Inmetro.

EOS equipment designers have carefully selected and customized components of the system to 1) reduce the number of critical components, thereby reducing the number of possible failure points and 2) ensure that the main failure points are made from the have carefully selected materials, eg. reduced welding points and enhanced silicone rubber materials, which are rated to 300 degrees Celcius

Factors to consider when purchasing a solar water heater

When searching for a solar water, it is important to consider getting a professional company to provide comprehensive service, ie. from design to product specification to installation and after-sale support (particularly maintenance). Buying a cheap product and having it fitted by an unlicensed or untrained plumber is usually a recipe for failures down the road.
The main requirement to be able to install a solar water heater is for the dwelling to have 2 separate plumbing lines (cold line and hot line). We can retrofit homes were built with 2 lines (hot line supplies from an electrical hot water boiler/geyser). However, modern low-cost homes are sometimes built with only one (cold) plumbing line, which would only be possible to retrofit if the owner decides to introduce a new plumbing line for hot water.

Factors to consider when purchasing a solar water heater

Important factors to consider when selecting an installation location are: Shading from surrounding roofs/buildings/trees/etc., orientation of the mounting surface, proximity to the consumer (bathroom/tap) so as to avoid long runs of hot water from the hot tank.

Solar water heater maintenance is important for safety – safety devices such as Temperature/Pressure (T/P) valves on some types of water heaters that should be checked and tested at least once a year (or in some cases more frequently, depending on your site specifics).

Our Process In Few Steps
Site-Survey
Step 1:
Free site survey
We visit your site and go through your requirements, the details of your dwelling such as piping installation surface (roof) sizing requirements etc. We will then walk you through and discuss our recommendation to see if it meets your needs, and finally send you a quotation.

Step 3:
Setting out & kick-off
In some instances such as apartment buildings, we might need to set up scaffolding and lifting equipment; in other cases, it’s a simple as confirming the installation location with you and finding a suitable location for our team to work from. A single solar system for a typical home can usually be installed by our team in a single day.

Step 4:
Unboxing & Inspection
Our team takes time to ensure that you get what we promise you (and what you expect). This starts with ensuring that the equipment we deliver to you is free from any defects that might have arisen during the transport. We check the integrity of all components from tanks to vacuum tubes and any accessories.
570_380_Frames
Step 5:
Setting up the galvanized steel frames
Installation typically begins with the frame being assembled on the ground; then hoisted to the mounting location, removing the roof covering and anchoring the frame into the roof structure. Our unique mounting technique is guaranteed to not penetrate into your roof covering, which therefore means “no leaks”!

Step 7:
Integration to your existing plumbing lines
The team will need to access the inside of your dwelling, linking the solar supply to your cold supply and solar hot output to your hot line; while at the same time isolating/disconnecting your existing hot water heater (if applicable).

Step 8:
Testing
Several checks are performed depending on the type of system installed and your configuration; our team has developed several verification techniques along the way over our many years of experience that ensure that you have no headaches once we are done and have handed over to you.

Step 9:
Commissioning
The team leader will schedule time with you to go over your new solar water heating system, show you the various components, walk you through the functionality and give a rundown of the basic troubleshooting steps. Test the water together to make sure you are satisfied!

Step 10:
Maintenance
The team will ensure that you are made aware of the benefits of maintaining your system and suggest a maintenance schedule based on your water quality; however, this will typically need to be adjusted over the first few months as we discover the truth.
How The Solar Water Heater Works

Depending on the type of system, this trapped energy is either used to directly heat the water or indirectly heat the water through an intermediary heat exchange fluid (such as that contained inside a copper heat pipe). This high level of efficiency compared to other technologies such as flat-plate collectors, allows the vacuum tube collector to heat up water in all weather conditions - sunny days, partially cloudy days and dull overcast days, though to a lesser degree on the latter.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Grid electricity is not only a scarce resource in Kenya, but it is also costly, unreliable and continually increasing in price. Solar, on the other hand, is a free fuel available for all to use, and it is Green! The Government has recognized this and provided for recent regulation which requires that all consumers of Hot Water in excess of 100L (a home accommodating more than 2 people) use Solar Water Heaters. This not only serves to free up Electricity for other consumers, but also allows for you, the consumer, to save significantly on your electricity costs, with immediate effect. All consumers must comply by 2017, while new construction must comply with immediate effect.
After installing our high-efficiency Solar Hot Water system, a typical household using a conventional electric hot water geyser will save upto 60% from their monthly Power bill. This means that you should recover your investment over 2-3 years of savings from your monthly Power bill.
The system is basically made up of the Tank and the Collectors. The Tank is comprised of the inner and outer layers, separated by a highly-effective, heat-insulating material; this ensures that all hot water in the tank stays hot for a long period of time. The Collectors are high-efficiency vacuum tubes, whose inner layer traps heat from the sun via a triple-absorption coating. The absorption coating in turn transfers heat to the water. This heat is prevented from escaping by a vacuum in between the double-layer coaxial glass structure of the tube – making the complete system highly efficient.
The basic working principle is known as the thermosiphon effect. Warm water rises due to natural convection, resulting in water circulating between the collectors and tank. The system is installed at an angle with tank above collector. As water in the collector tubes is heated by the sun, it becomes lighter and naturally rises into the tank above. Simple, effective and efficient, with no mechanical parts – this is the beauty of the basic system which has very few components which are prone to failure.
We will conduct a site visit to determine how best to fit the system. However, for a dwelling which already uses hot water, we do not expect major plumbing works. Nor do we expect major structural works, since the system typically sits on your roof, which we neatly integrate into various types of roof structure.
When heated by the collector tubes on a sunny East African day, the water temperature will rise to approximately 65 degrees Celsius. Moreover, we provide our customers with an Intelligent Controller, fitted in your home. This will give you full control over the system, showing exact temperature of the water. It also allows you to pre-set a preferred Constant Temperature – the Intelligent system will trigger the integrated Electrical Heater to boost your water temperature on cloudy days.
Indeed, you will. Hot water in the tank is kept hot thanks to the highly-effective, heat-insulating material between the inner and outer layers of the tank; this ensures that all hot water in the tank stays hot for a long period of time. Depending on your usage pattern, you will be able to set the system to automatically boost the temperature of the water, should the need arise.
The rate at which water is heated mainly depends on how hot it is on a particular day. However, one key benefit of our Solar Water Heaters is that there is 1 vacuum collector tube dedicated to heat every 10L of water. This means 30 tubes in the 300L system. Therefore, heating is evenly distributed along the entire length of water in the tank. The system has tubes with a combined collecting surface area of 3.7m2. To put this in perspective, a conventional electric geyser has 1 or 2 heating elements with a combined heating surface area of less than 0.2m2 (approximately 18 times less than the solar area).
The temperature of hot water depends on the rate of heating and the rate of use. If the real East African sun is out, you can continuously use hot water as fresh water is heated by the collectors on the go.
All our systems come with an Integrated Electrical Heater to boost your water temperature on cloudy days. We also provide our customers with an Intelligent Controller, fitted in your home. This will give you full control over the system, showing exact temperature of the water, allowing you to choose when to manually boost the temperature. It also allows you to pre-set a preferred Constant Temperature – in this way, the Intelligent system will trigger the integrated Electrical Heater automatically.
Our system typically integrates with a feeder tank, which serves as both a buffer for water supply and a cold reservoir to the Solar Hot Water system. The feeder tank gets its supply from your main reservoir (on ground, underground or from a water tower) in a similar manner by which your existing service tank is supplied. As long as there is water in your feeder tank, you will have uninterrupted supply of Hot Water. If the feeder tank runs dry, you will need to replenish it from the main tank (much in the same way as you need to replenish your service tank). This is mostly achieved by manual pumping, but we could offer the option to automate this pumping function via the Intelligent Controller.
This is a misnomer; and to show you our commitment, we will replace broken tubes free of charge. (Terms and Conditions apply – see our TITAN Assurance and TITAN Warranty for more information)
